Get Started

What to expect

Flightcrew collects data from Kubernetes environments via a pod called the Control Tower (see architecture diagram).

To install Flightcrew, follow the steps in this guide:

  1. (15 minutes) Configure your observability tool so the Control Tower is able to read metrics from it.
  2. (5 minutes) Install our helm chart to run the Control Tower on your cluster(s). The pod is lightweight, using 0.1 CPU and 150Mi memory on average.
  3. (5 minutes) To get the most out of Flightcrew...
    • Install our GitHub App to surface recommendations by creating and comment on PRs.
    • Install our GitHub Copilot Extension to get recommendations directly in your IDE.
    • Install our Slack App for weekly summaries and opportunities.

After a successful installation, resources and metrics will begin to populate in the Flightcrew dashboard and it'll begin to run analyses:

  • (5 minutes after install) Flightcrew will perform static analyses on configs to check for best practices in security, reliability, compatibility, etc.
  • (2-4 hours after install) Flightcrew builds an understanding of the cloud infrastructure and begins to make recommendations, which will continue to improve with time after gathering more and more data.
